About Site

iBece.org is an evolution of a number of sites that I published and later decommissioned. It is the first to embrace Web 2.0, and with it dynamic content and reader interaction. Through this site (I hesitate to call it a “blog”), I wish to share knowledge, experiences and commentary with the world. Entries are either full articles, or shorter snippets, or asides.

Technical Details

The site is hosted by Jumba and runs the WordPress blogging/content management system.

It currently uses the Freshy theme, by Julien De Luca, with significant modifications on my part:

  • Addition of aside support in the vein of Matt’s Asides, in combination with the MiniPosts2 plugin
  • “About” section of sidebar, linking to About Me page
  • Inclusion of “Recent” and “Recent in Category” sidebar sections
  • Implementation of Related Posts plugin on the sidebar

Thoughts

Jumba has proven an excellent host, despite much criticism, particularly from the Whirlpool community. I originally signed up under their FREE package, without which I would never have ventured into WordPress. The migration to paid hosting was relatively painless, and I continue to be pleased with their service.

WordPress is everything I could need in a CMS. Having come from a brief flirtation with the uber-restrictive Blogger, the freedom to customise and tinker is limitless. The WP community, including the family of plugin and theme developers and users, is welcoming and support is never far. I feel proud to be a part of the WordPress “blogosphere” and to be supporting free and open source software.
